Our Story
We're on a mission to help every hospitality team deliver flawless guest experiences through intelligent automation.
Supercell was born in 2019 from a simple but powerful observation: the hospitality industry was drowning in operational complexity. Our founder, James Crawford, spent over fifteen years managing boutique hotel chains across Colorado and witnessed firsthand how talented hospitality professionals were spending more time on spreadsheets and phone calls than on what they loved most — creating memorable guest experiences.
After one particularly chaotic summer season where a critical maintenance issue at a remote mountain property went undetected for three days — resulting in thousands of dollars in damage and a string of devastating reviews — James knew there had to be a better way. He partnered with Dr. Rachel Torres, a computer science researcher specializing in workflow automation at the University of Colorado Boulder, to build the very first version of what would become Supercell.
That prototype, coded mostly during late nights in a Denver co-working space, automated just one thing: cleaning schedules synced to PMS checkout data. But the impact was immediate and dramatic. The pilot properties saw a 40% reduction in turnaround time and zero missed cleanings over the next six months. Word spread quickly through the tight-knit Colorado hospitality community, and by early 2020, Supercell had its first twenty paying customers.
The pandemic paradoxically accelerated our growth. As the hospitality industry grappled with unprecedented safety protocols, contactless operations, and skeleton crews, Supercell's automation capabilities became not just convenient — they became essential. Hotels that previously relied on paper checklists and walkie-talkies suddenly needed digital solutions that could enforce sanitization protocols and provide verifiable proof of compliance.
We expanded rapidly through 2021 and 2022, adding our AI-powered guest messaging system, digital guest guides, and the analytics dashboard that our customers had been requesting. Each feature was built in close collaboration with our growing community of hotel operators who shared their real-world challenges and feedback through our advisory board program.
By 2023, Supercell was serving over 1,500 properties across 38 states. We raised a Series A round led by Horizon Ventures and used the funding to triple our engineering team, open a second office in Austin, Texas, and launch our Enterprise tier designed for large hotel chains managing hundreds of properties simultaneously.
Today, Supercell powers operations for more than 2,500 properties ranging from single-unit vacation rentals to nationally recognized hotel brands with portfolios exceeding 200 locations. Our platform processes over 15,000 automated tasks daily and has facilitated more than 4.2 million completed task verifications since launch.
Our Mission
Everything we build starts with the guest experience. When operations run smoothly behind the scenes, guests feel the difference — even when they can't articulate exactly why their stay felt seamless.
We believe that extraordinary hospitality happens when talented people are freed from tedious operational tasks. Our job is to automate the mundane so your team can focus on the magical.
Our best features were born from customer conversations. We maintain an active advisory board and ship new capabilities every two weeks based directly on operator feedback.
Gut instinct has its place, but we believe the best hospitality decisions are informed by real data. We help you measure what matters and act on insights that move the needle.
